Shortly before the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the Allianz Arena has celebrated its first birthday by opening for business at Munich Airport: a true-to-life model on a scale of 1:20 was unveiled in an official ceremony at 10 am on 30 May. The “Mini Allianz Arena” is set to entertain waiting passengers for a period of three months.
One year after the Allianz Arena was opened, its little sister will be officially inaugurated at Terminal 2, Gate 32 of Munich Airport on Tuesday, May 30. Apart from Munich Airport, other venues are also planned. “The figures speak for themselves,” comments Dr. Michael Albert, Member of the Board of Management of Allianz. “Since the opening of the Allianz Arena one year ago more than 2.5 million football fans have watched games live at the stadium. Nearly 500,000 visitors have taken a tour of the Arena on days when there isn’t a match. The stadium has become a landmark in Munich’s cityscape. That’s why we want to communicate the fascination of the Allianz Arena to the biggest audience possible across the world.” Allianz companies in Korea and China will also present a dedicated “Mini Allianz Arena” in their country with the aim of enthusing football fans in Asia. A tour with the “Mini Allianz Arena” is also planned, stopping at venues in Milan, Paris, Rio de Janeiro and Dubai.
The “Mini Allianz Arena” is a world of experience that cuts down the time passengers spend waiting for their flight to take off. Apart from information on the stadium and the two home football clubs FC Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich, the Allianz Arena also provides visitors with information about the sponsoring commitments Allianz undertakes, including Formula 1 and the America’s Cup. The interior of the “Mini Allianz Arena” has been designed on a sporting theme and is rather like a lounge where passengers can pass the time in a relaxed atmosphere. During the FIFA World Cup 2006, all the football games will be transmitted live in the “Mini Allianz Arena”.
