FC Bayern will take on third-tier Sportfreunde Lotte or Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund in this season's DFB Cup semi-finals. The draw was made after the Reds' 3-0 home victory over Schalke on Wednesday evening. Bayern will learn the identity of their next opponents on 14 March, the likely date when Lotte and Dortmund meet in their rearranged quarter-final. A Borussia victory would mean a home semi for Bayern, but should third division Lotte spring a last eight surprise, they would automatically enjoy home advantage due to their status outside the top two tiers.
The Lotte-BVB tie, originally scheduled to be played on 28 February, had to be rearranged as wintry weather conditions made the turf unplayable. The men from Munich have yet to take on Lotte in a competitive fixture, whereas the cup record against Dortmund favours the record cup winners, who have won six out of nine previous ties.
The semi-finals will be played on 25 and 26 April 2017, with the exact schedule to be finalised by the German FA (DFB) shortly.
