It was the perfect start to the home tournament from a German perspective - and also a historic moment for the Allianz Arena: in the opening match of UEFA EURO 2024, hosts Germany celebrated a resounding 5-1 (3-0) win over Scotland. After the four matches of the 2021 European Championship in Munich, FC Bayern's home ground also became the first stadium ever to host a game at two consecutive European Championships.
Florian Wirtz (10th minute) gave Germany an early lead with the first goal of the European Championship in Germany. Jamal Musiala (19') and Kai Havertz (45'+1) made the win look like a foregone conclusion before the break, especially as Scotland found themselves down to ten men after Ryan Porteous was sent off in the 44th minute. In the second half, Niclas Füllkrug (68') and Emre Can (90'+3) added two more goals for the DFB side, meaning that an Antonio Rüdiger own goal (87'), forced by the still battling Scots could no longer spoil the German team's successful start.
