After more than two months, the Allianz Arena’s colossal figureheads return – the two sets of letters shine to great distances both north and south. This pleases especially director Peter Kerspe, who followed the assembly at the scene.
“Naturally, we are very happy that the letters are finally back where they belong to complete our beautiful stadium. Now we are ready for the up-coming new season. It is remarkable, that even during the past few weeks of the World Cup, hardly anybody spoke of the “FIFA World Cup Stadium Munich”, but the name and thus the brand Allianz Arena was mentioned constantly.”
The letters had been dismantled in the run-up of the World Cup since the FIFA had the domestic authority in the Allianz Arena for the duration of the World Cup (25th of May – 12th of July) and did not permit any advertisement except by official World Cup sponsors. Now, after two months the stadium regains its original name. The first set of letters which was stored during this time, is being mounted back onto its designated steel structure on the southern side of the Arena on Wednesday and Thursday, and is supposed to be fully functional by Friday.
During the World Cup, the more “famous” set of the two biggest LED displays in Europe (100.000 light emitting diodes) was installed on Munich’s Haus der Kunst (House of the Arts) - in the context of an exhibition of the Allianz Arena’s architects Herzog & de Meuron. These twelve letters, weighing between 250 and 500 kilograms each, can be illuminated in both blue and white. On Monday the 31st of June, the letters will be removed from their location in the Prinzregentenstraße by local company Neon Härter, transported to Fröttmaning the next day and, following installation, are to shine from their original position on the 4th of August.
