Bayern v Real in quarter-finals

Bayern have been handed a challenging but hugely attractive tie in the 2016/17 Champions League quarter-finals, as the five-time winners of Europe’s top club competition were paired with Spanish giants and holders Real Madrid in the draw for the last eight. FCB will play the first leg in Munich with the return a week later in the Spanish capital.

The draw ceremony was held at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland from midday CET on Friday and was conducted by UEFA managing director of communications Pedro Pinto, UEFA deputy general secretary Giorgio Marchetti, and former Liverpool and Wales star Ian Rush, representing the venue for the final in Cardiff.

Bayern play the first leg of the last eight tie at the Allianz Arena, with the decisive second leg away from home at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. The first leg in Munich will be played on 11 or 12 April, with the return in Madrid just a week later on 18 or 19 April.

This year’s final takes place at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday 3 June.
