“The Mission III: SPORTS – Be Sustainable” – a joint project of FC Bayern München, the Allianz Arena and Futury, has officially kick-offed today at the Allianz Arena in the presence of FC Bayern’s Executive Board Member Andreas Jung and Managing Director of the Allianz Arena Jürgen Muth.
“The Mission” is a sustainability initiative that aims to build a broad eco-system around the topics of innovation and sustainability. In the next three years, the joint forces of various partners will create a long-term positive impact on the environment in different industries. Out of more than 800 applicants, the best 19 were chosen to join the third round of “The Mission”.
For the next three months, these 19 enthusiastic young talents will develop innovative ideas on how to make the stadium experience at the Allianz Arena more sustainable in all dimensions: Economically, ecologically and socially.
Andreas Jung, Executive Board Member of FC Bayern München, has defined a clear goal for the project: “Together with Futury, we are looking for the most creative ideas and the best talents to support us in creating a sustainable future for the Allianz Arena.”
The international teams will look into such topics as the fans’ commute to the stadium, energy consumption, entertainment, community engagement, waste management and more. In different stages of the project, they will define hypotheses on how their ideas can make the arena more sustainable, develop prototypes of their solutions and eventually present the results at the Final Pitch in October.
“With FC Bayern and the Allianz Arena, we have two very important players of the sports industry onboard. The results that will be developed for the Allianz Arena within “The Mission” can potentially be scaled up in the future to other stadiums and large-scale events. For the German sports industry, it is a great chance to play a pioneering role in the sustainability movement on an international level” – says Walter Sinn, Managing Partner and Member of the Board of Directors, Bain & Company.
At the Kick-off event, where they pitched their initial ideas, the talents startled the corporate partners with their young spirit, entrepreneurial mindset and the willingness to challenge the status quo. With the active support from the partners – FC Bayern München, Allianz Arena, Allianz, Audi, Siemens, HypoVereinsbank, Handelsblatt, Bain & Company and Arabesque, the teams will develop future-oriented solutions that will put Allianz Arena at the forefront of the sustainability movement in the sports industry.
