For over 60 years, the European Union has stood for stability and peace on the continent. To mark this historically unique union, Europe Day is celebrated every year on 9 May.
The Allianz Arena will again be joining in with the celebrations this year by lighting up in the colours of the EU from 20:00 to 22:00 CEST this Sunday, in a clear, widely visible symbol of a united Europe.
Special illumination from 20-22:00
In Munich-Fröttmaning, which can easily be seen from the A9, the colours of blue and yellow will be visible in the evening hours of 9 May. They commemorate the Schuman Declaration of 1950, when the words of then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman laid the framework for the European Union, which today comprises 27 states.
FC Bayern Munich embodies the European identity – and the treble winners’ home stadium symbolises togetherness on the continent as one of the venues for UEFA EURO 2020.
This summer, the Allianz Arena can be proud hosts as part of the first ever European Championship to be held across Europe. Germany’s three group games against world champions France (15 June), holders Portugal (19 June) and Hungary (23 June) will all be played in Munich, with the tournament making one further stop at one of the world’s finest stadiums for a quarter-final on 2 July.
